Vanilla Payroll, previously known as FinSolve is an established company started in 1988 in Johannesburg by Errol Guard, who wrote the popular TaxPlanner software. The firm grew in leaps and bounds and developed payroll software as requested by clients. This branch of the company was managed by Caren Guard, Errol’s daughter, who has extensive payroll experience.
Vanilla Payroll is the rebranded, streamlined payroll operation, separated from the tax planning side of FinSolve, and with payroll training and a bureau to support its software.
Vanilla is a registered member of the Payroll Authors’ Group and SA Payroll Association, through which it is able to help clients be compliant with SARS and labour legislation through regular updates.

I started using Vanilla because I wanted print-outs of IRP5s and I found that it was very user friendly and logical in the way it is laid out. In fact, one of my clients who uses Vanilla says it’s much better than any payroll software they’ve ever had. It is so simple to use but, most importantly, there’s a human at the other end of the phone and they attend to any problems you might have. You never sit in a queue being told: ‘Your call is important to us’.

Bearing in mind I have had no formal training on the software, I downloaded it and the user manual and began to teach myself. The manual is very user friendly and guides you step by step through the whole setup and on to the monthly procedures that need to be done.
